Day-trip to Ribeira Sacra from Ourense
The Ribeira Sacra covers the south of Lugo and the north of Ourense. The landscape is marked by the rivers Miño and Sil, and its banks are characterised by terraces of vineyards with different varieties of grape that produce some of the best Galician wines. The abundance of heritage, especially Romanesque churches and monasteries, also makes the Ribeira Sacra one of the most magical spots in Galicia.
We will begin our day with a catamaran trip through the river Sil. For 1 hour and a half, we will admire the characteristic woods and wineyards of this area.
We will then continue to one of the viewpoints of the area, from where we will be able to enjoy the views to the spectacular canyons from a higher point.
Our following stop will be at the Monastery of San Pedro de Rocas. It is located in the hear of the Ribeira Sacra and it is one of the symbols of the region thanks to its magnificient architecture. The legend says it was founded by a group of eremits in the 6th century.
Last but not least, we will continue to Ourense, the thermal city. This town, which attracted the Romans for its gold and thermal springs in the past, will surprise you for its unique artistic heritage.
We will enjoy some leisure time for lunch, and in the afternoon we will visit its historic town and walk through its cobbled streets.
